In May we celebrate the American Flag Day, but on July 4th we celebrate The Birth Year – 1865. Therefore this shirt has an amazing historical significance. Smaller shirts have their origins based on the same year (1865 was my grandfather’s birth year) and larger shirts will also be based on the date (1865 would be my great-grandfather’s first birthday).

It’s one of only 5 are known to exist. This is a shirt for my ancestors July 4th, 1865. At least one that was seen by the family at some point in time. Would like to get a memento of being there.

July 4th, 1865 was a date that marks the beginning of the American Civil War. It marked the start of the most brutal conflict known to humanity. The Confederacy had been in power for over two years, but on July 4th, Confederate General Robert E. Lee ordered his troops to begin bombardment during one of their regular operations. The firing continued unwillingly until Union batteries were placed along an imaginary line between any Confederate artillery positions and their own fortifications. This practice caused great confusion and chaos as artillerymen stayed closer to home than they should have since they knew where everything else was. The shirt was designed to help those who wished to display their patriotism by displaying the name and date of birth of your ancestor. The color was chosen based on the spirit of July 4th, 1865, when a group of soldiers were in command for the general surrender at Appomattox Courthouse.
